At Dr. Tina Dorfman Family Dentist, our Pointe Claire dentists use dental bonding as a non-invasive cosmetic procedure to restore a damaged, decayed or discoloured tooth.
What is Dental Bonding?
Dental bonding is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure where your dentist literally bonds tooth-coloured composite resin to your tooth to match the surrounding natural teeth.
Dental bonding is most often used to repair discoloured or chipped teeth, but it is also often used to close gaps between teeth, to make teeth appear longer, or to change their shape or colour, making them look more symmetrical.
The Bonding Procedure
Dental bonding typically requires only one visit to your dentist's office and can usually be completed in 30 to 60 minutes per tooth.
To prepare your teeth for bonding, your dentist will apply an etching solution to the surface of your tooth, and then apply a composite resin that matches the colour of your teeth.
The composite resin is then molded into shape and hardened in place with a high-intensity curing light.
Benefits of Dental Bonding
If you have a minor cosmetic dental issue, such as a cracked, discoloured or gapped tooth, dental bonding may help address it.
After your dentist has finished the procedure, your teeth will look natural, especially if the tooth being filled is visible when you smile.
The composite also strengthens your teeth, so you can enjoy meals without having to worry about applying too much pressure on your tooth and breaking or cracking it again.
